Obverse description Portrait of King George VI in military uniform occupies the left vignette, set within a fine guilloche border. The centre carries the denomination TEN RUPEES in intaglio lettering, the date 20th January 1951, and a legal tender clause reading 'This note is issued on behalf of the Government of Ceylon and is legal tender in Ceylon for the payment of any amount.' The issuing authority CENTRAL BANK OF CEYLON is inscribed across the top, with the denomination numeral 10 in each upper corner and serial number in red at upper right; Sinhalese and Tamil legends appear at top and bottom respectively, with a decorative crest of two elephants at the lower centre.
