10 Roubles Voronezh oblast

Part of the vast "Regions of the Russian Federation" series launched in 2000, this issue commemorates Voronezh Oblast, an administrative region in the Central Black Earth economic zone whose capital city was almost entirely destroyed during some of the fiercest urban fighting on the Eastern Front — Soviet and German forces traded control of Voronezh repeatedly between July 1942 and January 1943. The Bank of Russia produced hundreds of distinct bimetallic pieces in this format across two decades, making completionist collecting a serious undertaking.
