Vladimir Alexandrovich Sudets commanded Soviet long-range aviation during World War II before rising to lead the Soviet Air Defence Forces through the 1950s and 1960s. His career spanned the transition from piston-engined bombers to supersonic jets and surface-to-air missile systems — a period of wholesale doctrinal reinvention. That a Transnistrian state bank is issuing commemorative silver in 2025 reflects the unrecognised republic's ongoing project of constructing a distinct national identity through Soviet military hagiography.
