Tirotex is Transnistria's largest industrial enterprise — a textile combine founded in Tiraspol during the Soviet period that survived the 1992 war with Moldova and continued operating as one of the breakaway republic's few genuinely productive export businesses. The Transnistrian Republican Bank has issued commemorative silver pieces honoring domestic industry partly as numismatic revenue, given that the territory's international non-recognition forecloses most conventional foreign exchange options. Tirotex remains one of the few Transnistrian firms with documented trade relationships outside the CIS bloc.
