The Special Corps of the Northern Army was a White Army formation operating in the northwestern theater against Bolshevik forces during 1919, and its currency was a necessity of war rather than any functioning monetary system. General Aleksandr Rodzianko commanded the corps during its push toward Petrograd that spring and summer — the same offensive that came within striking distance of the city before collapsing entirely by autumn.
These notes circulated in a corridor of contested territory around the Pskov and Narva regions, accepted under military compulsion more than public confidence. The issuer ceased to exist as a coherent military force before the year was out, which makes survival in any condition a function of luck rather than careful preservation.
