Issued as part of Belarus's long-running folk tales and legends bullion series, this piece commemorates the Slavic folkloric figure of the Nightingale the Robber — Solovey Razboynik — a half-man, half-bird bandit from the Byliny epic cycles who terrorized travelers on the road to Kiev with a deadly whistle. The character predates Christianization of the eastern Slavs and survives most prominently in the cycle of the bogatyr Ilya Muromets, who captures him and delivers him to Prince Vladimir's court.
The National Bank of Belarus produced numerous issues in this .925 silver format through the mid-2000s, most in limited runs under 10,000 pieces.
