Aanvullende informatie

Transnistria — officially unrecognized by any United Nations member state — has nonetheless operated its own central bank and issued commemorative coinage since the early 1990s. The Pridnestrovian Republican Bank has used silver sports issues partly as hard currency exports, since the coins have no convertible monetary use outside the territory and find their primary market among thematic collectors abroad.

The 2008 date ties this piece to the Beijing Olympics cycle, when dozens of small and unrecognized issuing authorities produced licensed or unlicensed sports commemoratives for the collector trade.
