| Aanvullende informatie |
Belozersk is one of the oldest towns in Russia, with chronicles placing a settlement at Lake Beloye as early as 862 AD — the same founding year cited for Novgorod and Ladoga in the Rus' Primary Chronicle. The town shifted location in the 10th century, moving several kilometers to its current site on the lake's southern shore, likely for defensive reasons. It entered this bimetallic series as part of the Bank of Russia's long-running Ancient Towns of Russia program, which by 2012 had issued dozens of these circulation pieces.
