Belarus redenominated in 2000, cutting six zeros from the Soviet-era ruble — this note's face value of 10 was equivalent to 10,000,000 pre-reform rubles, a figure that tells you something about the inflation the country had absorbed through the 1990s. The National Bank issued the 2000 series as a direct replacement series, with designs adapted from the 1992–1999 issues rather than commissioned fresh.
The watermark remains the sole security provision — no thread, no foil — which reflects both the economic constraints of the period and the note's modest purchasing power at issue.
