Georgia's brief independence between 1918 and 1921 forced the newly established republic to build a monetary system almost from scratch. The 1919 rouble issues were printed domestically under difficult conditions — imported paper and printing supplies were unreliable throughout this period, and the series as a whole shows considerable variation in paper stock and ink quality across surviving examples.
Soviet forces absorbed Georgia in February 1921, and the rouble issues were rapidly demonetized. Notes that escaped the redemption process did so largely by accident.
