The extraordinary proliferation of signature combinations on this single type — over seventy catalogued variants between three Bank Directors (Konshin, Timashev, and Shipov) and a rotating cast of cashiers — reflects how the Экспедиция заготовления государственных бумаг (the State Printing Works in St. Petersburg) managed large-volume output across nearly a decade of continuous production. Shipov's tenure coincides with the war years, and the pressure of wartime demand almost certainly contributed to the printing errors recorded under his name.
The "without emblems in the shields of the eagle's wings" error variants are the genuinely collectable anomaly here — a die or plate defect causing the subsidiary heraldic charges within the double-headed eagle's wing shields to drop out entirely. At least eight cashier pairings with Shipov are known in this error state.
