Fujairah was among the smallest and most isolated of the Trucial States — no paved roads, no banking infrastructure, no real monetary economy to speak of — which makes its sudden appearance as a prolific issuer of silver commemoratives in 1969 a purely commercial phenomenon. These pieces were struck not for circulation but for the international collector market, timed to capitalize on Apollo 12's November 1969 lunar landing. The issuing authority had essentially no mint of its own; production was contracted to European facilities.
Fujairah joined the UAE in 1971, after which this kind of speculative issue ceased entirely.
