Qatar Central Bank's 2003 series marked a deliberate tightening of the country's currency administration following the earlier Qatar Monetary Agency notes — the Central Bank itself only formally assumed full monetary authority in 1993. Thomas De La Rue handled the printing, as they had for much of Qatar's note history, maintaining a relationship with the Gulf state that stretched back to the earliest Qatari issues.
The security specification here is notably lean for a 2003 issue — watermark and thread only, without the optically variable ink or microprinting that De La Rue was simultaneously supplying to other clients. A modest package for a denomination that saw heavy everyday use.
