Malaysia hosted the World Team Table Tennis Championships in Kuala Lumpur in 2016 — only the second time the tournament had been held in Southeast Asia. Bank Negara issued commemorative silver pieces for the event, a practice the central bank has maintained for major international sporting occasions held on Malaysian soil.
The Agong XIV designation refers to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, who served two non-consecutive terms as constitutional monarch — the only ruler in Malaysian history to do so.
