| Additional information |
Abdullah of Pahang was elected Yang di-Pertuan Agong by the Conference of Rulers in January 2019, following the unexpected abdication of Muhammad V — the first such abdication in Malaysia's constitutional monarchy history. The installation ceremony in late January was the sixteenth such event since independence, and Bank Negara marked it with this issue as part of a well-established practice of commemorative silver strikes tied to royal transitions.
Muhammad V's abdication came just days after reports of a secret marriage, making the political circumstances surrounding this coin's occasion genuinely unusual by regional standards.
