| Obverse description | At centre, a portrait effigy of Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah, the sixteenth Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, faces forward in formal regal attire. Surrounding the portrait is a decorative motif of a 14-cornered umbrella pattern, symbolising the sovereign's protection over Malaysia's fourteen states. The legend 'AL-SULTAN ABDULLAH RI'AYATUDDIN AL-MUSTAFA BILLAH SHAH IBNI ALMARHUM SULTAN HAJI AHMAD SHAH AL-MUSTA'IN BILLAH' is inscribed along the circumference in Latin script. The installation date '30 JULAI 2019' appears in the lower field beneath the royal portrait, flanked by decorative stars. |

Abdullah of Pahang was elected Yang di-Pertuan Agong by the Conference of Rulers in January 2019, following the unexpected abdication of Muhammad V — the first such abdication in Malaysia's constitutional monarchy history. The installation ceremony in late January was the sixteenth such event since independence, and Bank Negara marked it with this issue as part of a well-established practice of commemorative silver strikes tied to royal transitions.
Muhammad V's abdication came just days after reports of a secret marriage, making the political circumstances surrounding this coin's occasion genuinely unusual by regional standards.
