Brunei's 1967 note series was the first issued under the Currency Agreement signed between Brunei, Malaysia, and Singapore, which established interchangeable currencies at par across all three territories. That arrangement collapsed by 1973 when Malaysia withdrew, but the Brunei-Singapore interchangeability survives to this day — meaning this note was technically valid tender in Singapore upon issue.

Bradbury Wilkinson produced the series from their New Malden works, a facility that handled security printing for dozens of newly independent and semi-independent territories through the 1960s. The P#3 is among the earlier pickings from that first post-agreement run.
