10 Riksdaler Banco

Sveriges Rikes Ständers Bank — the Estates of the Realm Bank, predecessor to Sveriges Riksbank — issued this note during a period when Sweden's monetary system was grinding through a slow, politically contested transition away from the Riksdaler Banco unit. The Banco was a bookkeeping currency tied to the old Hamburg exchange standard, increasingly divorced from the silver-backed Riksdaler Specie circulating alongside it. The resulting dual-currency confusion was a genuine headache for merchants, and pressure to rationalize the system ultimately led to the 1855 reform that set the stage for full decimalization in 1858.

The series ran over two decades, which means paper quality and handwritten dating details vary considerably across surviving examples.
