The 1979 Iranian Revolution created an immediate numismatic problem: the new Islamic Republic needed coinage stripped of all Pahlavi iconography, but the Central Bank had to keep money circulating while new designs were approved and dies prepared. Trial strikes from this transitional moment were produced to test compositions and dimensions before full production authorisation, and relatively few escaped the melting pot.
