Issued as part of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's global coin program, which ran from the late 1960s onward and enlisted dozens of countries to mint special circulation pieces promoting agricultural development. Iran's participation in 1969 coincided with the Shah's White Revolution — a state-led modernization drive launched in 1963 that included land redistribution, rural cooperative expansion, and literacy corps deployment into farming villages. The FAO series gave that domestic agenda an internationally legible frame.
KM#1182 is one of the scarcer FAO issues from the region in terms of surviving mint-state examples.
