Yemen's unification in May 1990 created an immediate administrative headache: two separate central banks, two currencies, and an economy that had been running on parallel systems since partition in 1967. The Central Bank of Yemen was formally established to absorb both the Bank of Yemen (Aden) and the Yemen Arab Republic's central bank, and this 1992 note belongs to the first unified series issued under that consolidated authority — printed by De La Rue before the inflation pressures of the mid-1990s forced successive redenomination planning.
The 10 Rial denomination would become increasingly marginal within a few years; by the late 1990s, hyperinflationary tendencies had effectively rendered small-denomination notes useless in daily transactions.
