The Yemen Currency Board was a transitional authority established after North Yemen shed its centuries-old Imamate following the 1962 revolution. The Board's notes — including this 10 Rials — were among the first modern paper currency issues for a country that had relied heavily on silver Maria Theresa thalers well into the twentieth century. Bradbury Wilkinson, then operating out of New Malden, handled the printing, as they did for numerous newly independent or newly reconstituted governments during the 1960s.
The series was short-lived. The Yemen Currency Board was superseded by the Yemen Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which began issuing its own notes before the decade was out.
