Obverse description Central field features the countermarked denomination '10' superimposed over the original '40' réis numeral, both enclosed within an ornate wreath composed of flowering branches and decorative floral sprays. The circular peripheral legend naming Emperor Pedro I runs along the rim. The countermark device, applied to reduce the face value of the host coin, is clearly struck over the original denomination in the center of the wreath. Mint initial appears alongside the date within the design.
