Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle surmounted by a royal crown, the Roman numeral X denoting the face value of 10 Réis is prominently displayed in the center of the field, flanked on either side by stylized floral ornaments. The date appears within the same beaded circle. The surrounding legend reads JOSEPHUS·I·D·G·P·ET·BRASIL·REX, identifying the issuing monarch as José I, King of Portugal and Brazil by the Grace of God. The overall design is restrained and heraldic in character, consistent with Portuguese colonial coinage of the mid-eighteenth century.
