| 正面描述 | Central field displays the Portuguese royal arms — a crowned shield bearing the five quinas arranged in a saltire pattern — surmounted by a royal crown. The numeral X, denoting the denomination of 10 Réis, is prominently superimposed over the shield. A beaded inner border frames the central device, with the circumferential Latin legend running between the inner and outer rims. |

José I ascended to the Portuguese throne in 1750, and this copper issue belongs to the early years of his reign — before the Marquis of Pombal had fully consolidated administrative control and before the catastrophic Lisbon earthquake of November 1755 disrupted virtually every civic institution, including mint operations. Production across this series shows meaningful inconsistency, a direct consequence of the earthquake's destruction and the chaotic rebuilding effort that followed.
The Casa da Moeda itself sustained damage in 1755, contributing to the striking irregularities collectors encounter across issues dated within this window.
