Obverse description Plain field bearing the denomination numeral '10' above the inscription 'REIS' in large raised capital letters, all within a plain border. The lettering is bold and deeply struck in the hammered tradition characteristic of Portuguese colonial coinage produced at the Goa mint. Some specimens exhibit a distinctive inverted 'S' variety in the word 'REIS'. The overall design is simple and utilitarian, consistent with the small-denomination copper coinage issued under João VI for circulation in Portuguese India.
