| Reverse description | Small armillary sphere depicted in the center of the field, a symbol of Portuguese maritime exploration and sovereignty widely used on colonial coinage of the period. The sphere is rendered in a simplified, somewhat schematic style typical of hammered copper issues struck at the Goa mint. The reverse design is unadorned beyond the central device, with no legend or additional inscription. Two main die varieties are recorded, catalogued as Gomes J6.07.0 (Large armillary sphere) and J6.24.01 to J6.24.02 (Small armillary sphere). |
