The Reichskreditkassen were established in 1939 specifically to fund occupation — these notes were never legal tender within Germany itself, only in occupied and annexed territories where Wehrmacht forces operated. By 1944, the series was being issued into theatres where German control was already collapsing, making actual circulation increasingly chaotic and redemption after the war essentially worthless.
The watermark is a simple basket-weave pattern, functional rather than sophisticated — reflecting wartime paper constraints more than any security ambition.
