| Obverse description | Plain field enclosed by a continuous inner beaded circle, with the date 1873 inscribed centrally beneath a horizontal rule and a six-petalled rosette ornament above. The circumferential legend reads CARTAGENA SITIADA POR LOS CENTRALISTAS SETIEMBRE in raised Latin capitals between the beaded inner border and the toothed outer rim, separated at the base by a small star ornament.
