Obverse description The obverse is executed predominantly in red intaglio on a multicolour guilloche underprint, centred on a sculptural allegorical effigy of the Republic rendered in fine line engraving. To the left of the central vignette, two tactile raised zeros function as a Braille-based accessibility feature for the visually impaired. Security microprinting is integrated throughout the background underprint, with denomination numerals and authority inscriptions arranged across the design field.

The Plano Real, launched in July 1994, succeeded where several prior stabilization attempts had failed — the 10 Reais entered circulation as inflation was finally collapsing after decades of chronic monetary disorder. This note's long print run, spanning over a dozen years and six different signature combinations, reflects that unusual institutional continuity. Pedro Sampaio Malan's signature appears across the earliest series from 1997 through to the Lula-era handover at C1137C, an unbroken tenure at Finance that few economies see.

The Guido Mantega "not legible" variety at D3439C is a recognized collectible distinction — his signature block was reworked mid-series after legibility complaints, making the transitional prefix range genuinely scarce relative to surrounding issues.
