The Caspian Tern series belongs to South Africa's ongoing Natura programme, which shifted toward colorized issues in the 2010s as collector demand for applied-color silver coins grew sharply across the global commemorative market. The colorization on these pieces is applied post-strike, a process the South African Mint contracts rather than performs entirely in-house.
KM#630 is a low-mintage collector issue with no circulation purpose whatsoever.
