Opmerkingen

The South African Bank Note Company has printed virtually all SARB issues since the early 1960s, making it one of the few central banks in the world to maintain domestic printing capability throughout its post-independence history — a deliberate policy decision that survived repeated privatization debates. The 2023 series continues that arrangement, with SABN's Pretoria facility handling production.

TBB#777a is the current working note for this denomination. The relatively modest security feature suite — watermark and thread only, on paper rather than polymer — is worth noting given that several SARB denominations have migrated to polymer substrate in recent years, making this paper issue increasingly an outlier in the active circulation series.
