| Obverse description | The Cedar of Lebanon, the national symbol, depicted centrally in the field with a broad, spreading canopy rendered in fine relief. To the left and right of the trunk appear small mint privy marks — a key to the left and an owl to the right. Below the cedar, the issuer's name is inscribed in Arabic script (مصرف لبنان) in a bold, curved legend across the middle field. The date appears in both Western Arabic and Eastern Arabic numerals (1970·١٩٧٠) below the Arabic legend, with the French legend BANQUE DU LIBAN arcing along the lower rim. The entire design is framed by a continuous border of raised beads. |

Banque du Liban, established in 1964 to replace the Banque de Syrie et du Liban as Lebanon's central bank, issued this series as part of the country's first fully independent coinage. The timing proved grimly ironic — production ran until 1975, the year Lebanon's civil war began, a conflict that would effectively collapse normal monetary circulation for nearly two decades.
