Sudan's 1970 pattern issues were struck during the transitional period following Jaafar Nimeiry's military coup of May 1969, when the Revolutionary Command Council was actively reshaping national symbols and monetary iconography. Patterns from this year exist in multiple compositions, suggesting the mint — almost certainly the Royal Mint working on contract — was testing alloys before committing to production coinage.
Bronze was ultimately not the metal chosen for circulating 10 Qirsh pieces of this period.
