Obverse description Central field dominated by the tughra of the Khalifa Abdullah in bold Arabic calligraphy, incorporating the denomination numeral within its composition. A flowering foliate spray with five-petalled rosettes rises above the tughra, while ornate scrolling floral branches frame the lower portion of the design, forming a partial wreath border. The denomination in Arabic numerals and the qirsh designation appear within the tughra field. The entire design is enclosed within a toothed or beaded inner border, typical of Mahdist Sudanese coinage of this period.
