Obverse description The Eagle of Saladin, emblem of the United Arab Republic (1958–1961), displayed facing left with wings partially spread and talons gripping a scroll bearing Arabic inscription. A tripartite shield on the eagle's breast features two vertical five-pointed stars on the central pale. The Gregorian date (1960) appears in the left field and the Hijri date (1380) in the right field, both rendered in Eastern Arabic numerals. The legend of the United Arab Republic curves along the upper periphery in Arabic script. A fine toothed border frames the entire design.
