| 备注 |
The National Bank of Scotland was established by royal charter in 1825 — the same year this note was issued — making early examples like this effectively inaugural-issue material. The bank launched with substantial capitalization and quickly became a serious competitor to the older Bank of Scotland and Royal Bank of Scotland, which had long enjoyed near-duopolistic dominance in Scottish note issue.
Scottish banks retained the legal right to issue their own notes under the Bank Notes (Scotland) Act 1765, a privilege that survived every subsequent attempt by Westminster to curtail it. A ten-pound denomination in 1825 was a significant sum, unlikely to have passed through many hands before being retired.
