| Obverse description | Central device features the Sudanese coat of arms depicting a secretary bird with wings displayed, perched upon and gripping a Mahdist shield over two crossed spears, with a scrolled ribbon below inscribed in Arabic with the country name. A banner above the bird bears an Arabic legend. To the left of the arms the denomination appears as '١٠ جنيهات' in Arabic numerals and script, and to the right as 'Ls. 10' in Latin characters. Below the arms, dual dates are inscribed in Arabic-Indic numerals: the Hijri year '١٣٩٨' at lower right and the Gregorian year '١٩٧٨' at lower left.
