The White Greyhound of Richmond is one of the Queen's Beasts series, a ten-figure program the Royal Mint launched in 2016 to coincide with the Queen's 90th birthday. The Greyhound itself derives from the heraldic supporters used by Henry VII, who acquired the beast as a badge through his Beaufort and Richmond inheritance — it passed into royal heraldry long before the Tudor dynasty had fully consolidated power.
This 2-oz proof format was introduced partway through the series run, after collector demand made clear the 1-oz strikes were undersupplying the market.
