The soldier is framed by a large open wreath of oak leaves and acorns, the branches extending from below and meeting at the top of the design. The composition, modelled by sculptor Philip Jackson, conveys a solemn commemorative tribute to the British serviceman. The engraver's initials PJ appear in small relief to the lower right within the wreath.
