| Reverse description | A full-length figure of a First World War British infantry soldier stands at rest in the centre of the field, depicted in meticulous sculptural relief wearing a Brodie steel helmet, full field kit, webbing equipment, and puttees, with his rifle held vertically before him. The soldier is framed by a large open wreath of oak leaves and acorns, the branches extending from below and meeting at the top of the design. The composition, modelled by sculptor Philip Jackson, conveys a solemn commemorative tribute to the British serviceman. The engraver's initials PJ appear in small relief to the lower right within the wreath. The highly polished proof fields provide a striking contrast to the intricately detailed high-relief design elements. |
