Additional information

Alderney's oversized silver issues of the mid-2000s were produced under the Channel Islands' longstanding arrangement allowing each bailiwick to issue its own commemorative coinage, despite the pound sterling functioning as the operative currency. The denomination — ten pounds — has no practical circulation function and was priced well above face value from issue. These are collector pieces in the strictest sense, produced by the Royal Mint on Alderney's authority.

The 80th birthday series for Elizabeth II generated multiple issues across various Crown Dependencies and overseas territories in 2006, making individual pieces difficult to distinguish in terms of collector priority. KM#82 is among the heavier 5-ounce format pieces from that year.
