Additional information

Issued to mark the Royal Air Force's ninetieth anniversary — though that fell in 2008, not 2007 — Gibraltar's government was among several Crown dependencies and overseas territories that produced commemorative issues ahead of the official centenary cycle. The RAF connection to Gibraltar is substantive: RAF Gibraltar operated continuously from 1939 through to the closure of the station in 1965, with North Front serving as a critical patrol base during the Battle of the Atlantic.

At 155.5 grams, this is a five-ounce format — a size that became increasingly common in the mid-2000s as bullion-adjacent commemoratives pushed toward larger flans to justify higher retail premiums.
