Issued on the 60th anniversary of the Liberation of Guernsey, which occurred on 9 May 1945 — a date the island still observes as Liberation Day, a public holiday unlike anywhere else in the British Isles. Guernsey was the only British territory occupied by German forces during the war, and the five-year occupation left a mark on the island's collective memory that no mainland British commemoration quite parallels.
At 155.5 grams of .999 gold, this is among the heaviest bullion-adjacent proofs issued under Guernsey's authority.
