The Ceremony of the Keys has been performed at the Tower of London every night without interruption for over 700 years — including on the night of 16 April 1941, when a German bomb blast knocked the escort party off their feet mid-procession. The Chief Yeoman Warder reportedly retrieved his hat, reassembled the party, and completed the ceremony on schedule. No wartime directive suspended it.
