Guernsey has issued commemorative crowns and multiples under royal warrant since the 1970s, and by 2009 the market for large-format silver issues marking Apollo anniversaries was thoroughly saturated. The 40th anniversary of the July 1969 lunar landing produced a wave of nearly identical pieces from Jersey, Gibraltar, and a half-dozen other dependent territories — all struck to the same basic specification, often sharing reverse dies through the same contracted minters.
