| 裏面の説明 | A large panoramic vignette of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh occupies the centre of the reverse, rendered in fine engraved linework over a green and ochre multicolour underprint. Edinburgh Castle on its volcanic rock is visible at upper left of the cityscape, with the railway bridge and urban streetscape extending across the lower register. The Clydesdale Bank logo appears at upper left, with the denomination "£10" at upper right and diagonal watermark-style lettering "The Old & New" repeated along the right margin. |

Clydesdale Bank is one of three Scottish banks retaining the legal right to issue their own sterling banknotes — a quirk of the 1845 Bank Notes (Scotland) Act that Westminster has never seen fit to abolish. The notes are not legal tender even in Scotland, but they circulate freely by long-standing convention and must be backed pound-for-pound by Bank of England reserves or coin.
P#229J falls within the Clydesdale's polymer transition period — the bank moved to polymer for its higher denominations in 2015, making this paper issue the last of its format for the £10.
