Obverse description Portrait of Robert Burns (1759–1796) at right, rendered in intaglio against a multicolour guilloche underprint in warm orange, ochre, and teal tones. The large numeral "10" dominates the centre-left, with the bank's promise-to-pay text printed in small letterpress above the Chief Executive's signature and issue date at lower centre. A small vignette at lower right alludes to Burns's poem "Tam o' Shanter", accompanied by a quoted verse from the poem.
