The Waterloo Medal itself — the original, issued in 1848 — was the first campaign medal awarded to every surviving British soldier who fought at Waterloo, regardless of rank. It came thirty-three years after the battle, long enough that thousands of the men entitled to it were already dead. This coin's design draws directly from that delayed reckoning.
At 156.3 grams of .999 silver across 65mm, the specification deliberately mirrors the heft and scale of a large service medal — an intentional engineering choice by the Royal Mint's design team for the 210th anniversary release.
