The Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, opened the American Revolutionary War — and they were fought before the Continental Congress had formally declared anything, before Washington commanded anyone, before there was an army. Eight militiamen died on Lexington Green in roughly sixty seconds. By nightfall the British column had taken over two hundred casualties on its retreat to Boston.
A piedfort at this weight is essentially two standard coins pressed into a single flan, a format the Royal Mint has used for prestige issues since the medieval period. The 312-gram silver mass here is not decorative excess — it preserves die detail at a depth simply unachievable on standard production strikes.
